Phishing has become one of the top methods that criminals are using to steal personal information. Phishing is successful because criminals can easily create a forged website that looks virtually identical to a legitimate site. Since most sites use design methods that are easy to reproduce, there are no clear means for frequent customers to distinguish between a forgery and a real site. Even verifying the URL doesn't always guarantee that the site is legitimate since DNS poisoning allows criminals to actually hi-jack the URL. MemberProtect now offers a solution to make websites less prone to successful phishing attacks.
Our technology makes it nearly impossible for a criminal to forge an identical copy of your website. We incorporate dynamic design elements that are unique to each website visitor. With MemberProtect's anti-phishing solution in place, customers can instantly -- with no extra work -- confirm that they're visiting your legitimate website. The solution works by allowing customers to add a unique picture to their MemberProtect profile. Customers can choose from a library of over 500 pictures, or they can upload their own. When a customer visits your website and authenticates successfully, we display the picture in a noticeable but unobtrusive area of the each page. Customers quickly recognize the picture, providing assurance that they are on your website. The absence of their picture is a clear indication that customers are not on a legitimate website. To further increase security, we can even utilize cookies to display the picture before the customer logs on. This further reduces the likelihood that a customer would unknowingly provide his username and password to a forged site.
The large image database, coupled with the customer's ability to upload his own photo, makes it nearly impossible for a phishing site creator to successfully "guess" which picture to display when a customer logs in. If the phishing site attempts to display a picture and shows the wrong one, the customer will immediately recognize the incorrect picture and know that there is a problem.
To help customers notify site owners when they've received solicitation
or fallen victim to a phishing site, our solution also includes a web-based
reporting system that lets customers report suspicious sites and email messages.
