Internet Content Filtering for Schools FAQ
- How does InetBlocker work?
- Do I have to perform any administration?
- What if I have problems with my hardware?
- Can I bypass filtering for certain users?
- Can I block all internet access?
- Do I need any additional hardware?
A: InetBlocker acts as a proxy between your computers and the internet. When a computer requests a web page from the internet, InetBlocker examines the request to determine whether the website is allowed based on your pre-defined business rules. If it is not allowed, then InetBlocker blocks the website, logs the action and displays a message on the computer.
Q: Do I have to perform any administration?
A: Under normal circumstances, no. InetSolution takes care of all management, including daily database updates.
Q: What if I have problems with my hardware?
A: While problems are rare, we plan for the unexpected. If InetBlocker hardware components fail, we will ship (or hand deliver, depending on your location) a replacement within 24 hours via UPS or FedEx next day service.
Q: Can I bypass filtering for certain users?
A: Yes, we can configure your system to allow specified users full internet access without any filtering.
Q: Can I block all internet access?
A: Yes, we can configure your system to prevent internet access to all users on your network. We can also configure the system to prompt users for a password to access the internet.
Q: Do I need any additional hardware to support your solution?
A: Yes, you will need at least one computer running Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Server with 40GB of free disk space to log internet access.
